چکیده
This study was carried out in order to establish the scient medicinal use of Stachytarpheta cayennensis (Verbanace toxicity and barbituric-hypnotic test of the total aqueous and butanol (SCBT), ethylacetate (SCEA) fractions of were studied in male rats and mice. The effect of system sleep architecture in rats was also evaluated in Sp chronically implanted with electrodes for electr electromyogram (EMG) recording. The acute toxicity tes doses of SCCR (up to 2000 mg/kg) per oral in rats an mg/kg and 95 mg/kg) systemically in rats and mi significantly (p<0.01) potentiated phenobarbital-induce latency and increasing sleeping time in a dose-depende administration of single doses (250 and 500 mg/kg) 30 m period of TASC significantly (p<0.05) increased total rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep during the 6-h reco REM sleep was biphasic with the higher dose admini Stachytarpheta cayennensis showed profound effects on the potential sedative effects.

Effect of Acute and Chronic Heat Exposure on Frequency of EEG Components in Different Sleep-Wake State in Young Rats
The recent literatures indicate that central nervous system (CNS) is highly vulnerable to systemic hyperthermia induced by whole body heating on conscious animals. In the present study, cerebral electrical activity or EEG (electroencephalogram) following exposure to high environmental heat has been studied in moving rats. Rats were divided into three group (i) acute heat stress-subjected to a s...
متن کاملImmunomodulatory effects of Stachytarpheta cayennensis leaf extract and its synergistic effect with artesunate
BACKGROUND The leaves of Stachytarpheta cayennensis C. Rich. (Verbenaceae) have been reported to possess potent anti-inflammatory and anti-malarial activities. Due to close association between inflammatory and immune responses, we evaluated the immunomodulatory activity of leaves extract of S. cayennensis. The combined effects of the leaves extract and artesunate, a standard antimalarial agent ...

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the in vivo antiplasmodial activity of the ethanol leaf extract of Stachytarpheta cayennensis in the treatment of various ailment in Niger Delta region of Nigeria, in Plasmodium berghei infected mice. MATERIALS AND METHODS The ethanolic leaf extract of Stachytarpheta cayennensis (90-270 mg/kg/day) was screened for blood schizonticidal activity against chloroquine sensiti...
متن کاملAcute and Subacute Toxicity of Safranal, a Constituent of Saffron, in Mice and Rats
The acute and sub-acute toxicity of safranal were studied in rat and mice within 2 and 21 days after exposure, respectively. For subacute toxicity, changes in weight as well as biochemical, hematological and pathological parameters were studied. The intraperitoneal LD50 values of safranal were 1.48 mL/kg in male mice, 1.88 mL/kg in female mice and 1.50 mL/kg in male rats. Oral LD50 values were ...
متن کاملSafety Assessment of Mentha mozaffarianii Essential Oil: Acute and Repeated Toxicity Studies
Background: Mentha mozaffarianii, an endemic species from the Labiatae family, is used in Iranian traditional medicine. This study evaluated the acute and repeated oral toxicity of the Mentha mozaffarianii essential oil (MMEO) in rats and mice. Methods: To assess the toxicity profile of the MMEO, we administered the essential oil to 48 rats and mice of both sexes by gavage in acute and repeated...
